Back in the day before i was old and had broken feet.
Should i oil my ceramic bearings before using them.
I ve installed boca orange seal 7 bearings in many reels.
I remember cleaning my skateboard bearings.
Since i started using it regularly i haven t had to replace any bearings at all probably because the bearings are of such high quality as is the lightning lube.
Oil dissipates faster than grease so typically shielded bearings using oil as lubrication will require constant care.
Hi i ve just bought a pair of ceramic bearings for one of my 515 s no particular reason i just wanted to try them and my question is what oil should i use i use red rf in all my other bearings so should i continue to use this or use another oil.
Metal shielded bearings that use either grease or oil should be constantly maintained and frequency level with vary depending on your application.

In order for a ceramic ball bearing to out perform a steel ball bearing grease is not an option.
Ah well good memories anyway.
I used boca bearings in all of them.
I used the lube while installing them.
Does this mean i should run my ceramic ball bearings dry or with light oil.
Kelly explained that most bearings will require lubrication to some degree.

Certainly would run them dry best bearings you can get if you find them to fast just add.
It should pop up and out quite easily so handle them gently and don t bend them or cut the seal.
There are opinions that running dry will shorten life.
Some were the high speed bearings and one set was their ceramic bearings.
Some are dry and are a little noisy a little oil quiets them down and i personally don t see any casting differencse except quieter bearings.
Also reapply oil at least once a season thin oil will hold dirt and dust in suspension which can cause the bearings to wear earlier.
To much will cause the bearings to slow down.
Oil lubrication allows for more efficient movement of the ball through the lubricant as compared to greases the difference between dry and lubricated bearings.
Don t use isopropyl alcohol to clean the bearings find some sort of spray or liquid degreaser.
But occasionally a dry bearing may be specified.
Ceramic bearings should not require any lubrication if i remember correctly.
