Sometimes however operators attempt to make a side pull or use the hoist horizontally to lift an object that is not directly underneath it. One of the most dangerous ways to misuse an overhead crane is to side load the hoist. Not every lifting crane is heavy machinery or an expansive derrick crane. Side pulling is one of the most common and most dangerous mistakes made with overhead cranes.
